BadLands 2o24

Bad Company Hawkes Bay and Good Stuff present BadLands, a music and live arts weekend! BadLands promotes community-based events that vary in genre, creative outlet, or location, bringing people together and connecting in unconventional and exciting ways. And that we did!

BadLands covered multiple locations over Napier and Hasting with live music and live art painting. Bad Company was lucky enough to host the art launch on Saturday night, from a co-working space to an art gallery. To see more BadLands activity, check out goodstuff_aotearoa, this blog captures Bad Company and the upgrades to our meeting rooms and fantastic art on our big walls.

The Strong Room

Why have a vault painted white when you could paint it squid-ink blue with boogie monsters throughout it? Move over that boring meeting table and bring in a bed with hand-sculpted figurines representing a creative mind at play. The installation, “Thought Crimes,” had little beasts, hooligans, minions, and heroes, created by Magic Darts. This immersive experience featured a soundtrack completed by Dr Jeremy Mayall. If you want to book into the long table boardroom either for an experience or a meeting, book online here

The Whiskey Library

Our whiskey room might be a bit fun, but throw in a mirrored acrylic light sculpture and some epic art by John Lancashire and Craig McClure, and you have the new smoking den. This mirrored light sculpture is available for lease or purchase along with the art. Unfortunately, the round table room is back to its original, but it is available for use; book online.

the Backwall

Sick of looking at a concrete wall? Cracked Ink did a mural, live, on our back wall. To have one of his famous creatures walking above the trees, is a lovely reminder to keep going and keep growing. If you get to see a live mural, it's incredible how an artist can paint on such a live scale but up close to the wall.

This 3-day arts and music festival was held from the 12th - 14th July. BadLands was the launch of Good Stuff, a new creative agency run by Cinzah Merkins and represented a range of artists; Craig McClure (Magic Darts), Gina Kiel, Jenny Arcus, John Lancashire (Monday Painter), Chimp One, Cracked Ink, JR and more. A massive thanks to…

A huge shout out to Cinzah Merkens for his leadership throughout this project, working with all the curve balls that came, includiung the weather. This weekend wouldn’t have come together without the support of the sponsors; Resene, Rosina Eatery, Brave Brewing, Quest Hastings, Velocity Entertainment, Decibel Wines, Sovereign Tattoo Studio and the Hastings District Council Viberancy fund.
